What Fibre Does

This is a page on a site earning commission from a supplement, stating plainly that the biggest available change comes from a supermarket. Pretending otherwise would undermine everything else published here.

The physical effect. Soluble fibre makes what is in the gut thicker. Thicker contents empty more slowly, and carbohydrate arriving slowly produces a gentler rise than the same carbohydrate arriving all at once. Mechanical, not subtle.

Why the plate outranks the capsule. That effect is not a marginal one. Changing what a meal is built from alters the following two hours more than a 500 mg blend realistically can, it works on the first day, and it works every single time.

Where to find it without thinking. Beans and lentils. Oats. Whole fruit instead of juice. Vegetables next to the carbohydrate rather than replacing it. Nuts. No plan, no subscription, no delivery.

The order of the plate. There is reasonable evidence that eating the vegetables and the protein ahead of the starch changes the curve that follows, with identical food on an identical plate. Free, immediate, and faintly absurd that it works.

So why take anything at all? Because these are not competitors. A supplement is a small consistent input running beside the food, which is what the panel actually claims. What it is not is a replacement for the plate, and any page implying otherwise is selling something that does not exist.

A test worth running. Add fibre to lunch for a fortnight and watch whether the three o'clock sag shrinks. If it does, you have learned something about your own afternoons that no capsule was ever going to teach you.
